Joining forces to accelerate energy access

Monday, April 3rd: 18:00 - 20:00

HOST: The Government of Nepal, the Republic of Kenya and the Netherlands, Schneider Electric,Selco India and Hivos, Energia and SNV

Closed session - Sheraton Brooklyn, New York City

Leaders from governments, private sector and civil society discuss how to deepen partnerships to enable universal, green and inclusive energy access. A call to action for other governments, companies and CSOs to join will result from this gathering.

The draft of the 2017 Global Tracking Framework shows that progress on energy access has slowed further - especially in rural areas. Progress would need to be 3 times faster if we wanted to make true on our commitment to provide access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. As over 80% of those without energy access live in rural areas, decentralised renewable energy such as off grid and mini grids have a key role to play.

However these solutions currently don’t get the support they need. For this reason the high level workshop brings stakeholders from different governments, IFI’s, civil society and businesses together to develop a communique and define concrete ideas around the question: How can we concretely create more strategic and deeper cooperation between all stakeholders to speed up progress towards universal, green and inclusive energy access, especially supporting the uptake of decentralised renewable energy solutions?
